Abstract
Dina Ilyinichna Rubina, born in 1953, is a prominent Russian-Israeli writer of prose fiction. Born in Tashkent in the former Soviet republic of Uzbekistan, she attended the Tashkent Conservatory. As a result of her music education, her writings incorporate themes of music and musical experience, as well as those of metaphysics, being bicultural, and living in emigration. She has written for the stage and films; her works have been translated from the original Russian into many foreign languages. In 1990 she left the Soviet Union and moved to Israel. In 2007 she won the Большая книга [Major Book] literary award, conferred upon an author whose prose writing is exemplary. “On Saturdays” was published in 1974 in the journal Юность and reprinted in the 2005 collection of Rubina’s stories, Когда же пойдет снег? (Мoscow: EKSMO, 2005).Delos_35_2_10_Rubina-Nollan-Davison_3P.indd 22628/12/20 2:42 PM
