Submission Types:

• Case Study: Case studies should be experience reports or empirical studies that provide insights to the field. Anatomical Insights aims to include not only cadaveric case studies but also biological and forensic anthropologists regarding osteological variations that may have medicolegal significance, medical professionals regarding medical case studies with medical, pathological, or surgical implications, and students.
• Case Report: Case reports are short descriptions of one or more instructive cases that have educational merit. The report should be no more than 3,000 words.
• Research Article: Original research articles should be related to the aims and scope of Anatomical Insights. Articles should be 6,000–8,000 words, excluding tables, figure captions, and references. Manuscripts outside the recommended length will be accepted at the discretion of the editors.
• Review Article: Review articles provide an assessment, critique, or overview of a specific topic in human anatomy.

Review Process

All submissions will be first screened by the editors to determine whether the manuscript fits the scope of the journal and is appropriate for publication in Anatomical Insights. If found to be within the scope of the journal, the manuscript will be sent out for peer review by at least two anonymous reviewers. The journal operates with a double anonymous review process, meaning that authors and reviewers will remain anonymous to one another. Based on the reviewer reports, the editors will make a decision to reject the manuscript, send back for minor or major revision, or accept. Overall editorial responsibility of the journal rests with the editors and editorial board of Anatomical Insights.

Submission Instructions

Manuscripts should be submitted online at https:journals.upress.ufl.edu/anatomical.

Authors should submit manuscripts as MS Word files. Tables and figures should be uploaded separately.

Authors are required to submit an ethics statement with their article that addresses items such as permissions obtained, collaboration with descendant communities, informed consent, and ensuring the care and protection of subject or remains. Please see the journal's full ethics policy here.

 

Authors submitting manuscripts to Anatomical Insights must also abide by the international standards and guidelines set forth by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), found here: http://publicationethics.org/resources/international-standards-for-editors-and-authors.

By submitting a manuscript to the journal, you are acknowledging that the work has not been previously published, that the work is not being considered for publication in other venues, and that you will not allow the manuscript to be so considered before notification in writing of an editorial decision by Anatomical Insights. Upon acceptance of a manuscript, the corresponding author will be sent the Journal Publishing Agreement form to sign. This form outlines the rights of the author and publisher regarding publication of the manuscript.

The journal’s website uses the Open Journal Systems software to manage the peer review of manuscript submissions. You will need to create an account the first time you use the system as either an author or reviewer. To create an account, follow the instructions here. See below for more specific guidelines for preparing and submitting your manuscript to Anatomical Insights.

• Include a title and, in most cases, informative headings
• Include an abstract of no more than 250 words
• Include at least three keywords that preferably do not appear in the title
• Do not include any identifying information about the author(s) in the text file or properties
• Submit as Microsoft Word files (.doc or .docx)
• Submit tables and figures as separate files from the main manuscript text file
• Authors are responsible for obtaining permission and paying any associated fees to use any images or other material that has been previously published elsewhere
• Follow the journal’s specific reference style
• Spell out numbers one through nine in the text; use numerals for numbers 10 and greater

 

Figures/Tables

Images should be uploaded as separate files within the submission system. Image files should be high-resolution TIFFs, at least 300 dpi at a size of 6x9 inches. A captions file (MS Word) that lists all figure captions should also be provided. We ask authors to also include alternative text within their captions file to improve accessibility of the article.

 

Tables should be uploaded in one MS Word file. Each table should include a caption above the table. Excel files for tables are also acceptable.

 

References

Anatomical Insights uses the American Medical Association style system of numbering references consecutively in order of appearance in the text. Authors should follow the guidelines outlined in the AMA Manual of Style, 11th edition, when formatting references.
